Netflix released a first-look trailer for the sci-fi drama “I am Mother” on Thursday morning. The movie is coming to Netflix on June 7th and features an all-star cast. The story follows a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind. The pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
“I am Mother” stars Hilary Swank, Clara Rugaard, and Rose Byrne. The film is produced by Timothy White and Kelvin Munro, with a screenplay by Michael Lloyd Green. The movie is based on a story by director Grant Sputore and Michael Lloyd Green.
Netflix describes the story adding, “In the wake of humanity’s extinction, a teenage girl is raised by a robot designed to repopulate the earth. But their unique bond is threatened when an inexplicable stranger arrives with alarming news.”
Earlier this week Netflix also announced that Hilary Swank will star as astronaut Emma Green in a 10 episode drama series called “Away.” Swank will also serve as an executive producer on the series. Jessica Goldberg (The Path) will serve as showrunner, writer, and executive producer project, with Ed Zwick directing the first episode as well as serving as an executive producer.
Netflix describes that series, “Away centers on Emma Green, an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous mission. It is a series about hope, humanity and how we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.”
