Netflix had a surprise announcement for fans of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt this week. The popular series is returning to Netflix as an interactive special, and it will feature fan favorites Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane.
Tina Fey attended this evening’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt FYSEE panel in New York City, telling guests, “We’re thrilled to announce that we’re about to start production on an all-new Interactive Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt special, set to debut on Netflix in 2020. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event.” Fey added, “Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”
Tina Fey and Robert Carlock serve as creators on the show; they also serve as executive producers with Jeff Richmond, Sam Means, and David Miner.
During its run, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” earned 18 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series for each of its seasons. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a production of Universal Television, Little Stranger, Inc., Bevel Gears, and 3 Arts Entertainment for Netflix.
The platform didn’t announce a premiere date yet for the special, but more information will be announced over the next few months. At that time, we will most likely get a teaser trailer or two, and a preview of the new interactive special that will be coming to Netflix.
