The Avengers assembled for another box office win this weekend, becoming the fastest film to hit the $2B mark worldwide. The Marvel giant won its second week in theaters, inching its way towards the “Avatar” box office record of $2.78B globally. Next week won’t be a walk in the park for the Marvel team, not with Detective Pikachu on the case.
“Avengers: Endgame” took first-place this weekend with $145.8M across 4,662 locations. Now in its second week, the Marvel installment made over $619.6M domestically. The follow up weekend pushed “Avengers: Endgame” over “Titanic” to become the second-highest grossing film worldwide. “Avengers: Endgame” was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film features Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Josh Brolin, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper (Voice), Elizabeth Olsen, Evangeline Lilly, Letitia Wright, Chadwick Boseman, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
“The Intruder” made $11M on its opening weekend. The film debuted in roughly 2,200 locations this week and landed in second-place overall on the domestic charts. Deon Taylor directed “The Intruder,” which stars Dennis Quaid, Meagan Good, and Michael Ealy.
Lionsgate’s “Long Shot” landed in third-place with a $10M opening across 3,230 locations. Jonathan Levine directed “Long Shot,” and the film stars Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen. Kelly Asbury directed “Uglydolls,” which features the voice talents of Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monae, Wanda Sykes, Emma Roberts, Jane Lynch, Ice T, and Gabriel Iglesias.
The Marvel hype helped “Captain Marvel” stay in the top five for another week. Now in its tenth week in theaters, “Captain Marvel” made $4.2M domestically. The weekend raised the film’s domestic total to $420.7M. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed “Captain Marvel” for the studio, and the film features Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn.
As we mentioned earlier, “Avengers: Endgame” could lose its first-place status next weekend. Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing “Pokemon Detective Pikachu” across 4,100 locations, against “The Hustle,” “Poms,” and “Tolkien.”
