Paramount Pictures released a first-look trailer for “Crawl,” a new horror-thriller set to hit theaters later this summer. Deadly alligators and rising floodwaters are threatening residents that refused to evacuate their small town, and now the stranded townsfolk are forced into a survival situation against the beasts. The movie stars Kaya Scodelario, Barry Pepper, and Ross Anderson.

The story picks up when a massive hurricane hits a Florida town, and a young woman ignores the evacuation orders to search for her missing father. She finds him gravely injured in the crawl space of their family home, and the two become trapped by quickly encroaching floodwaters. As time runs out to escape the strengthening storm, Haley and her father discover that the rising water level is the least of their fears as alligators are now stalking them down.

Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) directed the film for the studio, with Craig Flores, Sam Raimi, and Aja serving as executive producers.

Paramount Pictures released the first-look trailer on social media on Thursday morning, teasing followers with the line “They were here first.”

“Crawl” isn’t the only horror-thriller releasing in July, A24 is releasing the studio’s own thriller “Midsommar” on July 3, 2019. “The Boy 2,” from STX Entertainment starring Katie Holmes, is releasing later in the month on July 26th. These horror-thrillers will have to battle the big summer blockbusters of the month, with “Spider-Man: Far From Home” releasing on July 2, and “The Lion King” live-action remake hitting theaters on July 19th. Sony Pictures is also releasing “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” from writer-director Quentin Tarantino, on July 26th.

If you want to set a reminder, “Crawl” will hit theaters nationwide on July 12th.
