Marvel broke another all-time opening record this week with “Avengers: Endgame.” The film had the highest-grossing domestic opening weekend of all time, making over $350M for the studio. The Marvel installment is well on its way to becoming the highest-grossing domestic film, which is currently “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $936M. Interestingly, none of the top three highest-grossing films internationally currently belong to Marvel. “Avatar” has the highest-grossing total at $2.78B, followed by “Titanic” at $2.1B, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is third at $2.06B. “Avengers: Infinity War” is the highest-grossing Marvel film internationally with a $2.04B total.

Marvel fever pushed “Captain Marvel” to second-place this weekend; the film made $8M across 2,435 locations. Now in its eighth week in theaters, “Captain Marvel” has made over $413M domestically. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed “Captain Marvel” for the studio, and the film features Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ horror-thriller “The Curse of La Llorona” dropped to third-place on the domestic charts after bringing in $7.5M across 3,372 locations. The faith-based drama “Breakthrough,” from FOX, made $6.3M at 2,913 locations this weekend, bumping the film’s two week domestic total to just over $26M. Roxann Dawson directed “Breakthrough” for the studio, and the film features Chrissy Metz and Topher Grace.

DC’s “Shazam!” dropped to fifth-place overall with a $5.5M weekend, bumping the film’s four week domestic total to $131M. “Shazam” was directed by David F. Sandberg, the film features Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Djimon Hounsou, Meagan Good, and Adam Brody.

“Avengers: Endgame” opened without any competition at the box office, but next weekend there will be several new releases. The animated-comedy “Uglydolls” is opening against “El Chicano,” with Joe Carnahan, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and Frank Grillo, and the thriller “The Intruder” with Dennis Quaid, Meagan Good, and Michael Ealy. That’s the same weekend that Jonathan Levine’s “The Long Shot” with Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen opens in theaters.

The Weekend Box Office Results are updated every Sunday.
