Warner Bros. Pictures released a final trailer for “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” on Tuesday morning. The monster-sized video teases the film’s many battles and reminds moviegoers that the film is releasing next month. “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 31st, opening against the thriller “Ma” with Octavia Spencer, Juliette Lewis, and Luke Evans, and Dexter Fletcher’s “Rocketman” musical with Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Godzilla is hitting the box office one-week after Disney’s “Aladdin,” Brad Pitt’s sci-fi thriller “Ad Astra,” and the horror-thriller “Brightburn” starring Elizabeth Banks. All of the films are packed with A-list actors and come from big studios, so it will be interesting to see which of the new releases win their respective weekends. While this is the ‘final’ trailer, more TV spots will most likely be released as we get closer to the premiere.

The new Godzilla movie is part of the same monster universe as “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island.” In the story, Godzilla fights a wide-array of iconic monsters, all while humanity struggles to survive. The film follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and the three-headed King Ghidorah.

The last “Godzilla” film had a $93M opening weekend back in 2014, and the film went on to make over $529M worldwide. “Kong: Skull Island” did even better, starting with a $61M opening weekend before going on to make over $566M worldwide.

Michael Dougherty directed “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” for the studio. The film stars Bradley Whitford, Millie Bobby Brown, and Vera Farmiga.

The next installment to the monster universe will be “Godzilla vs. Kong,” that film was scheduled to premiere on May 22, 2020, but moved to March after “Space Jam 2” took a July spot.
