The DC Universe is expanding in 2019, adding new shows like “Swamp Thing” and “Stargirl” for subscribers. This week, DC Universe released a first look teaser for “Swamp Thing,” which is set to release later this Spring.

The teaser doesn’t show much, but it sets the tone for the new series. Derek Mears plays the creature in the new DC Universe show, and fans can see the monster lurking for his swampy home in the short video.

“Swamp Thing” made headlines this week when it was reported that the show’s first season was cut down to 10 episodes, after initially having 13 episodes planned. Multiple outlets have reported that creative differences are causing some off-screen drama for the series, but DC Universe hasn’t made any official statements at this time.

The show will follow Crystal Reed, taking on the role of Abby Arcane. As we mentioned earlier, Mears is playing the Swamp Thing, but Andy Bean will play Alec Holland, the human alter ego of the swampy monster.

Reed, Mears, and Bean will join Maria Sten, Jeryl Prescott, Henderson Wade, Kevin Durand, Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, and Ian Ziering in the cast for season 1.

DC Universe shared the video on social media with the series description, “Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.”

James Wan, who directed the DC film “Aquaman,” is producing the series. The show is based on the original DC characters created by Bernie Wrightson and Len Wein. Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear, and Len Wiseman also serve as producers on the series.

The pilot episode was written by Verheiden and Dauberman, and Wiseman is set to direct the series.

If you want to set a reminder to catch the series, “Swamp Thing” is scheduled to premiere on May 31st.
