Multiple outlets are now reporting that the new Disney+ subscription service will feature a live-action spinoff series starring Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Renner plays the same role in Marvel’s “The Avengers” franchise, and the show is one of several that are lined up to launch the new Disney+ streaming service.
According to early reports, the service will introduce Kate Bishop, a fan favorite in the Marvel universe and the protege of Hawkeye. The series will most likely feature Clint Barton, the current Hawkeye, training and introducing the new character to the superhero lifestyle. In the Marvel comics, Bishop joins up with other age-appropriate superheroes that make up the Young Avengers squad. While Disney and Marvel have been quiet on the news, Variety was one of the first outlets to report Renner’s involvement.
Renner was one of the original members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though he never got his own spinoff film. His character first appeared in “Thor” and joined the team in “Avengers” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” While Hawkeye did make an appearance in “Captain America: Civil War,” he was noticeably absent during “Avengers: Infinity War.” Hawkeye is coming back strong in “Avengers: Endgame,” and his character has been heavily featured in the trailers.
The Hawkeye spinoff isn’t the only Marvel property in the works at Disney+. Characters like Loki, Vision, and the Scarlet Witch are expected to get their own limited-series on the Disney service. There have been rumors that Bucky and Falcon could get their own series, but nothing has been confirmed at this time. If everything goes according to plan, the limited series would run about eight-episodes each and extend the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the small screen. The shows are in good hands, as Kevin Feige, leader of the MCU, is producing the limited-series.
