‘Monsters Inc’ Spinoff Coming to Disney+ Called ‘Monsters at Work’

Disney announced one of the first animated-series coming to the new Disney+ service this weekend, and it’s a “Monsters Inc.” spinoff. The new animated-series is bringing back a lot of the original cast, along with some new characters. The series is set to debut on Disney+ in 2020 and features the voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sulley. The best friends are back at work and ready to keep Monstropolis running for years and years.

According to the announcement, “Monsters at Work” will pick up six months after the events in the original movie. The Monsters, Inc. plant is running on children’s laughter, which it turns out is far more powerful than the screams that the Monsters were collecting before the first film. The series will introduce Tylor Tuskmon, voiced by Ben Feldman, a young mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team (MIFT). Tuskmon dreams of working on the Laugh Floor, just like his heroes Mike and Sulley, who are the top laughers on deck.

Disney also confirmed that Jennifer Tilly will reprise her role as Celia, and John Ratzenberger is returning as Yeti (just don’t eat his snowcones). Bob Peterson is returning as Roze, the twin sister to the “Monsters Inc.” character Roz. We are guessing that Roze is just as particular as her sister when it comes to filing paperwork, but we will have to wait for a first-look trailer to get all the details.

The new cast includes Kelly Marie Tran as Val Little; Henry Winkler as Fritz; Lucas Neff as Duncan; Alanna Ubach as Cutter; Stephen Stanton as Smitty and Needleman; and Aisha Tyler as Tylor’s mom Millie Tuskmon.

The original “Monsters Inc.” debuted at number-one in theaters back in 2001, the film made $62.5M on opening weekend before grossing over $577.4M for Disney.

The new Disney+ service doesn’t have a release date yet, but that might change after the big Star Wars announcements later this spring.
