Annapurna Pictures’ “Booksmart” dropped a new trailer this week. The comedy is hitting theaters in May and stars Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein, along with Jessica Williams, Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte, and Jason Sudeikis. The movie is going up against some heavy hitters next month but “Booksmart” is getting great reviews and will be hitting a theater near you in just a few weeks.

The story centers on two best friends right before they graduate from high-school. Looking back on the last four years, they realized that they have always done the right thing, and chose school over fun. The story picks up as the duo try and fit four years of high-school fun into one night.

The studio described the film adding, “Told from a wildly original, fresh and modern perspective, Booksmart is an unfiltered comedy about high school best friends and the bonds we create that last a lifetime. Capturing the spirit of our times, the film is a coming of age story for a new generation.”

The comedy marks the feature debut for Olivia Wilde, and the comedy sits with a 100% score on RottenTomatoes. “Booksmart” was written by Emily Halpern & Sarah Haskins, along with Susanna Fogel and Katie Silbern.

“Booksmart” is hitting theaters on a very crowded weekend but is scheduled for a nationwide release. The comedy is opening against Brad Pitt’s “Ad Astra;” Disney’s “Aladdin” live-action adaptation; and the superhero thriller “Brightburn” with Elizabeth Banks. The following weekend won’t be any easier for the film, with “Godzilla: King of the Monsters;” the thriller “Ma;” and Taron Egerton’s “Rocketman” opening in theaters across the country.

Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Jillian Longnecker, Scott Robertson, and Alex G. Scott served as executive producers on the film. Wilde starred in front of the camera in the romantic-drama “Life Itself” back in 2018. Written and directed by Dan Fogelman, the film also featured Oscar Isaac, Annette Bening, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, and Antonio Banderas.

“Booksmart” releases in theaters on May 24th.
