Netflix ordered a second season of “After Life,” the dark-comedy series from Ricky Gervais. The second season of “After Life” will have six episodes and is scheduled to release in 2020. The show is a Netflix original series from Derek Productions and was created, written and directed by Ricky Gervais.
If you’re new to the series, “After Life” centers around Tony (Ricky Gervais), who seemingly had a perfect life. After his wife Lisa dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Super Power — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.
In the announcement, Ricky Gervais said, “I have never had a reaction like this before. It’s been insane. And heartwarming. But now I have to make sure the second season is even better so I’ll probably have to work much harder than usual. Annoying really.”
Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix added, “After Life has moved audiences from laughter to tears around the world and we are thrilled to announce that Ricky Gervais will be back with a second season on Netflix. We are so proud to play host to Ricky’s brilliant stand up comedy, specials, original films, and series and join in the joy of the fans with his latest hit.”
Charlie Hanson is a producer, while Ricky Gervais and Duncan Hayes are executive producers on the project. We will have to wait a little longer before we get a premiere date for the new episodes, but the second-season should start production later this year, or early next year.
