‘Avengers Endgame’ Tops ‘Star Wars’ on Fandango’s First Day Record
Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” tickets went on sale today, causing sites to crash and fans to erupt on social media. Premiere day tickets have completely sold out in most markets, and Fandango says that the new Marvel release is already breaking records.
The pre-sale ticket report from Fandango is predicting an excellent opening weekend for “Avengers: Endgame,” which seems to be the most anticipated movie of this generation. Early ticket buyers beat Fandango’s first day U.S. sales record in just six hours, blowing past the previous record-holder: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Fandango stated that the advance tickets for “Avengers: Endgame” went on sale on today at 5:00 am PT/8:00 am ET and within minutes, the company saw historic numbers of fans reserving their seats. The record shakes up the top five pre-sellers at the company, which now stands at “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Since Disney owns every property on the top five, we think Star Wars is ok with Marvel taking the top-spot (for now). As for the opening weekend record, Marvel’s current domestic leader is “Avengers: Infinity War,” which made $257M. That Marvel installment went on to make over $2B worldwide for the studio.
“Avengers: Endgame sales have exceeded all expectations and surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ the previous record-holder, to become Fandango’s top-selling title in its first 24 hours of sales, and it accomplished that feat in only 6 hours,” Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis points out. “We’ve never seen anything like this – it’s truly a groundbreaking accomplishment – as fans simply cannot wait to see how this epic saga comes to a close.”
“Avengers: Endgame” was chosen by several thousand fans at the end of 2018 as the most anticipated movie of 2019, according to a Fandango moviegoer survey.
Anthony and Joe Russo directed “Avengers: Endgame” for Marvel Studios. The film will feature Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Josh Brolin, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper (Voice), Elizabeth Olsen, Evangeline Lilly, Letitia Wright, Chadwick Boseman, and Gwyneth Paltrow. There will most likely be a few surprises as well.
