Warner Bros. Pictures released the first teaser trailer for Joaquin Phoenix’s “Joker” movie on Wednesday morning, the film is scheduled to release this fall. The movie stars Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Robert De Niro.

Oscar nominee Todd Philips directed, produced and co-wrote the film, which centers around the iconic arch-nemesis of Batman. The film is an original, standalone story, and is coming to theaters on October 4th.

The story follows Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), a man disregarded by society who becomes a psychopathic murderer. The film also stars Zazie Beetz (“Deadpool 2”), Bill Camp (“Red Sparrow,” “Molly’s Game”), Frances Conroy (“American Horror Story,” “Castle Rock”), Brett Cullen (“42,” “Narcos”), Glenn Fleshler (“Billions,” “Barry”), Douglas Hodge (“Red Sparrow,” “Penny Dreadful”), Marc Maron (“Maron,” “GLOW”), Josh Pais (“Motherless Brooklyn,” “Going in Style”), and Shea Whigham (“First Man,” “Kong: Skull Island”).

Phillips co-wrote the screenplay with writer Scott Silver (“The Fighter”), which is based on characters from DC. Fans of the DC character can watch the teaser-trailer below. In the past, Phillips released images and short BTS clips to tease the movie, but this is the first official teaser trailer that the studio released for the project.

Phillips and Bradley Cooper are producing the film, along with Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Richard Baratta, Michael Uslan, Joseph Garner, and Bruce Berman are serving as executive producers on the movie. Lawrence Sher (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” “The Hangover” trilogy) is serving as director of photography.

The October box office will eventually fill up, but right now there are still some empty slots. Warner Bros. Pictures‘ “Joker” is opening against Amy Adams’ thriller “The Woman in the Window,” which was directed by Joe Wright. Those two films will have to battle Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man” the following weekend, as well as “Zombieland 2: Double Tap” with Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Rosario Dawson.
