An all-star cast is bringing the story of “The Dead Don’t Die” to theaters this summer. The film, from Focus Features, stars Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat and Tom Waits.
Jim Jarmusch wrote and directed the film for the studio, which is scheduled to release on June 14th. That’s the same weekend that Sony Pictures is releasing the film “Men in Black International” with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, and Emma Thompson, and Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing the movie “Shaft” with Samuel L. Jackson.
You can get a first-look at the film below.
While it may have an incredible cast, the film might only release in a limited number of theaters. Many of Jarmusch’s projects, like his “Coffee & Cigarettes” collection and popular films like “Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai,” “Paterson,” and “Broken Flowers,” were only released in a handful of theaters despite their AAA casts. The box office is also pretty crowded in June which might prevent the studio from expanding the release.
The week before “The Dead Don’t Die” hits theaters is the premiere of FOX’s “Dark Phoenix,” “The Secret Life of Pets 2,” and Mindy Kaling’s comedy “Late Night.” The weekend after isn’t easier, with the “Child’s Play” reboot and Disney’s “Toy Story 4” hitting theaters nationwide.
Still, you might want to keep “The Dead Don’t Lie” on your radar. Bill Murray and Adam Driver are longtime collaborators with Jarmusch, and the film could expand to more theaters if it does well on its limited debut. Either way, the movie is sure to hit digital streaming services, where it can be devoured by fans of the genre all around the world.
