Paramount Pictures dropped the final “Pet Sematary” trailer on Monday morning. The new adaptation is scheduled to release in theaters nationwide on April 5th and horror fans can get one last preview of the film before opening night.

The story is based on the iconic horror novel by Stephen King. The studio described the story adding, “Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed, who, after relocating with his wife Rachel and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall, setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.”

Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer directed the new adaptation for the studio, working from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler. The new adaptation stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, Jeté Laurence, Hugo & Lucas Lavoie, and John Lithgow.

“Pet Sematary” won’t have an easy weekend at the box office. The horror-thriller is opening against Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Shazam!” installment, and “The Best of Enemies” with Taraji P. Henson, Sam Rockwell, Anne Heche, and Wes Bentley. The film’s follow-up week won’t be any easier. “Pet Sematary” will have to battle “After” with Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin; Neil Marshall’s “Hellboy” with David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, and Ian McShane; Tina Gordon Chism’s “Little;” and Chris Butler’s “Missing Link” animated-feature.

The next big horror-thriller release on the schedule following “Pet Sematary” is Warner Bros. Pictures’ “The Curse of La Llorona.” That film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 19th.

Mary Lambert directed the original “Pet Sematary” for Paramount Pictures back in 1989. The film opened at number-one at the box office with a $12M weekend before grossing $57M.
