Disney’s “Dumbo” flew into theaters this weekend, but it didn’t reach the same heights as Dinsey’s other live-action adaptations. The popular pachyderm opened in theaters nationwide against Neon’s “The Beach Bum,” hoping to make a splash before “Shazam!” hits theaters next week.

Disney’s “Dumbo” made an estimated $45M across 4,259 locations. “Dumbo” was directed by Tim Burton; the film features Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, and Eva Green. That puts “Dumbo” above “Christopher Robin,’ which made $24M on its opening weekend before grossing $197M worldwide, and “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” which made $26M before grossing $299M worldwide.

The new release pushed “US” down to second-place on the domestic charts but the thriller still pulled in another “$33.6M” this weekend. The film, now in its second week in theaters, has made over $128M domestically. Jordan Peele wrote and directed “Us” and the film stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss.

Disney’s “Captain Marvel” is still flying high in theaters; the film made another $20M across 3,985 locations this weekend. Now in its fourth-week in theaters, “Captain Marvel” has made over $353.8M domestically for the studio. “Captain Marvel” was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck; the film features Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Clark Gregg, Jude Law, and Gemma Chan.

Lionsgate’s “Five Feet Apart” remained in fourth-place this weekend after grossing $6.2M across 2,845 locations. The YA drama has been in theaters for three weeks and has made $35.8M for the studio. Justin Baldoni directed “Five Feet Apart;” the film stars Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse.

The anti-abortion film “Unplanned” debuted in fifth-place with a $6.1M opening. The film opened in 1,059 locations and was directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon. The R-rated drama stars Ashley Bratcher, Brooks Ryan, and Robia Scott.

Not making the top-five but worth mentioning is Neon’s “The Beach Bum,” which made $1.8M across 1,100 locations. “The Beach Bum” was directed by Harmony Korine; the film features Matthew McConaughey, Snoop Dogg, Isla Fisher, Martin Lawrence, and Zac Efron.

These movies will battle DC’s “Shazam!” and the “Pet Sematary” reboot next weekend. Select theaters will also get the drama “The Best of Enemies” with Taraji P. Henson, Sam Rockwell, and Anne Heche.
