With “Avengers: Endgame” just a few weeks away, Marvel fans are trying to wait out the next few days as patiently as possible. That might be a little harder to do now that we know Angelina Jolie is in talks to join the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Multiple outlets have now reported that Jolie is meeting with Marvel to join “The Eternals,” which wouldn’t be Jolie’s first Disney movie, but it would be her first jump into the superhero genre. Exact details on “The Eternals” movie and Jolie’s possible character are pretty slim, but The Eternals have a long history at Marvel comics.

“The Eternals” are a Jack Kirby creation dating back to 1976. The Eternals do tie into some of the already established Marvel Cinematic Universe, mostly with EGO, who appeared in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and was played by Kurt Russell. Ego called himself a Celestial, and in the comics, the Celestials experimented on humans to create the Eternals.

Chloe Zhao is expected to direct “The Eternals” for Marvel, but casting information hasn’t been announced at this time. Matthew and Ryan Firpo are working on the script, with Kevin Feige producing the project.

As we mentioned earlier, Jolie already has a history with Disney. The actor starred in one of Disney’s first live-action adaptations, “Maleficent,” in 2014 and a sequel is coming out this year. “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” will hit theaters on October 18th. The original “Maleficent” made $69M on opening weekend before grossing over $758M worldwide. The sequel will feature Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville. The second installment will welcome newcomers Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein, Harris Dickinson, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Marvel has not made any official announcements at this time, so fans will just have to wait it out. At least “Avengers: Endgame” is only a few weeks away, that film is set to hit theaters on April 26, 2019.
