Taylor Schilling’s ‘The Prodigy’ Goes Digital in April
Horror-thriller fans will have another movie to stream this April. FOX announced this week that the studio will release “The Prodigy” on April 23rd on Digital HD, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on May 7th.
“The Prodigy” stars Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Taylor Schilling as Sarah, a mother whose young son Miles’ disturbing behavior signals that an evil, possibly supernatural force has overtaken him.
While the film had a high-profile cast, “The Prodigy” struggled in theaters when it hit a crowded box office. The thriller opened in February with a $5.8M debut against “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part,” “What Men Want,” and “Cold Pursuit.” Also in theaters at that time was the comedy “The Upside” and the thriller “Glass.” “The Prodigy” went on to make over $14.8M in theaters.
The story follows Sarah as she chooses between her maternal instinct to love and protect Miles and a desperate need to investigate what — or who — is causing his dark turn. The studio teased the film adding, “She is forced to look for answers in the past, taking the audience on a wild ride; one where the line between perception and reality becomes frighteningly blurry.”
Nicholas McCarthy directed “The Prodigy” for the studio, the film features Jackson Robert Scott, Taylor Schilling, and Peter Mooney.
While most fans know Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman in “Orange is the New Black,” the actor will also appear in the film “Phil” as Sam. Greg Kinnear directed that comedy-drama, which also features Emily Mortimer, Bradley Whitford, Luke Wilson, Jay Duplass, and Kurt Fuller.
