A first-look trailer for “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” was released this weekend from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. The live-action adaptation is scheduled to hit theaters this summer and comes from director James Bobin.

The story follows Dora (Isabela Moner) who has spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents. All of those adventures didn’t prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure ever – starting High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

Julia Pistor, Eugenio Derbez, and John G. Scotti served as executive producers on the film, which was produced by Kristin Burr.

Joining Moner in the cast are Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Adriana Barraza, Temuera Morrison, Jeffrey Wahlberg, Nicholas Coombe, Madeleine Madden, and Danny Trejo.

The live-action adaptation is based on the iconic children’s program and a story by Tom Wheeler. Nicholas Stoller and Matthew Robinson wrote the screenplay for the adaptation which hits theaters on August 2, 2019.

August 2nd is the same weekend that “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” hits theaters. Dora will give the little moviegoers a movie to see while teens and adults check out the latest installment to the “Fast & Furious” franchise. Dora will have a lot of competition the following weekend when Disney’s “Artemis Fowl” hits theaters nationwide. August 9th is the weekend that the drama “Brian Banks” hits theaters, and the crime-thriller “The Kitchen.” A24 is also releasing the horror-thriller “Midsommar” that weekend, and Lionsgate is releasing “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
