‘The Upside’ Goes Digital in May
Universal Pictures set a digital release date for “The Upside,” the comedy will first release on Digital HD on May 14th, followed by the Blu-ray, DVD and On Demand version on May 21st.
The film partners Kevin Hart (Night School, Ride Along) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo, “Breaking Bad”) to tell the inspirational true story of a genuine and unique friendship. Neil Burger (Divergent, Limitless) directed the film for the studio, which also features Nicole Kidman. “The Upside” turned out to be STX’s highest-grossing opener and was well received by critics and moviegoers.
“The Upside” did very well in theaters, opening in first-place on the domestic charts with a $20M debut. The comedy then went on to make over $118.7M worldwide.
In the story, a recently paroled ex-convict, Dell Scott (Hart) strikes up an unusual and unlikely friendship with a quadriplegic billionaire, Phillip Lacasse (Cranston) in this hilarious and heartfelt comedy. From worlds apart, Dell and Phillip form an unlikely bond, bridging their differences and gaining invaluable wisdom in the process, giving each man a renewed sense of passion for all of life’s possibilities.
Hart is currently filming the untitled “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Sequel” with Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. That project, from Sony Pictures, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 13th. Sony Pictures teased the cast back together again earlier this month while they were shooting on location. That film is Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing film to date.
Brian Cranston will be featured in “The One and Only Ivan,” an animated-comedy also starring Angelina Jolie, Sam Rockwell, Danny DeVito, and Helen Mirren.
