The world needs to be more excellent to one another, and Bill and Ted are going to make that happen. Hammerstone Studios and Orion set a date for the third installment to the Bill & Ted franchise today, confirming that “Bill & Ted Face the Music” is going into production and will release on August 21, 2020.
On social media, the studio told followers, “The world is about to get a lot more excellent” and released a quick announcement video with the two stars. From Orion Pictures, the movie will star Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, and the righteous friends had a special announcement waiting for longtime fans.
Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) will direct the film, working from a screenplay by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, the original writers of “Bill & Ted.”
The film picks up with Bill & Ted after their two trips through time and space. Their first journey was in the 1989 movie “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” and the second trip was in 1991 when “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” hit theaters.
The story will once again follow William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. and Theodore “Ted” Logan. The duo aren’t rock-and-roll superstars yet, but they team up on a new adventure to save their families, their rock, and the world. The two middle-aged buddies get a warning from the future, telling them that only their perfect song can save the world, and bring harmony to the Universe.
Ed Solomon directed the original “Bill and Ted,” which opened in third-place back in 1989 after bringing in $6.1M. The film opened the same weekend as Tom Hanks’ “The ‘Burbs,” which won the weekend with $11.1M. Peter Hewitt was brought on to direct “Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey,” which opened at number-two with a 10M weekend behind “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”
Scott Kroopf, Alex Lebovici, and Steve Ponce are producing the film. Steven Soderbergh is serving as executive producer with R. Scott Reid, John Ryan Jr., Scott Fischer, and John Santilli.
