A new adaptation of Walter Tevis’ novel ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ is coming to Netflix. The new series chronicles the life of an orphan chess prodigy and stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Glass, The Witch) as Beth Harmon.
The story is set during the Cold War era and follows Beth Harmon from the age of eight to twenty-two, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.
Anya Taylor-Joy is a Gotham Award winner and BAFTA Rising Star nominee. Fans of Anya will also see her in the upcoming films “Playmobil,” “Emma,” and “Last Night in Soho.” Anya Taylor-Joy was also featured in season five of “Peaky Blinders” and the Netflix series “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.”
Scott Frank (Godless, Logan) will serve as writer, director, and executive producer on the series, Frank is a two time Academy Award nominee. William Horberg (The Talented Mr Ripley) is serving as executive producer, with Allan Scott (Don’t Look Now, The Preacher’s Wife) serving as both co-writer and executive producer.

Netflix has already ordered six episodes of the series, but the company stopped short of confirming a release date at this time. More information and other casting details will most likely be released at a later date, so fans of Anya Taylor-Joy will have to wait a few more weeks before getting a trailer.
Taylor-Joy is also set to star in “The New Mutants” in the role of Illyana Rasputin / Magik. That project has been delayed several times but could release on August 2 if everything goes according to plan. Set within the X-Men universe, from FOX, the film was directed by Josh Boone. Maisie Williams, Antonio Banderas, Alice Braga, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt are also set to star in the film.
