‘Lego Movie 2: The Second Part’ Goes Digital in April
Warner Bros. Pictures has set a digital release date for “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.” The animated-comedy will first release on Digital on April 16th, followed by the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on May 7th.
The highly anticipated sequel did well in theaters, opening at number-one back in February with a $34M debut. The film then went on to make over $171M worldwide for the studio. The sequel didn’t top the original’s box office run; the first installment made $69M on opening weekend before grossing over $469M worldwide.
The sequel brought back a lot of the same talent, including Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Jurassic World”) as Emmet; Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games” movies, “Love & Mercy”) as Lucy, aka Wyldstyle; Will Arnett (“The LEGO Batman Movies,” TV’s “Arrested Development”) as LEGO Batman; Alison Brie (TV’s “GLOW,” TV’s “Community”) as Unikitty; Nick Offerman (“Fargo,” TV’s “Parks and Recreation”) as MetalBeard; and Charlie Day (the “Horrible Bosses” movies, TV’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia”) as Benny.
The new additions to the cast were Tiffany Haddish (“Girls Trip,” “Keanu”) and Stephanie Beatriz (“Short Term 12,” TV’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) as new characters Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi and General Mayhem, respectively. The film also featured Maya Rudolph (“Bridesmaids,” TV’s “Big Mouth”), as Mom.
Mike Mitchell directed “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” for Warner Bros. Pictures, the film was produced by Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Roy Lee, the team behind the LEGO film franchise since “The LEGO Movie,” and Jinko Gotoh.
Lord and Miller also wrote the screenplay, working from a story written by Lord.
The story picks up five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are now facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space. The invaders are wrecking everything faster than it can be rebuilt and Bricksburg is in trouble. The battle to defeat the invaders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Batman (Will Arnett) and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a galaxy filled with fantastic planets, strange characters and catchy new songs. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
