The CW is putting together a spinoff series of the hit show “Riverdale,” with Lucy Hale set to star as Katy Keene. Hale confirmed the news on social media this afternoon, adding another name to the growing cast list. The former “Pretty Little Liars” star recently wrapped production on the upcoming “Fantasy Island” adaptation and will be headed back to TV if everything goes according to plan.

The CW spinoff will follow Katy Keene, which is also the title of the spinoff. The show comes from Riverdale creator and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

While it’s a spinoff, Katy Keene will follow several major Archie Comics characters. Keene is the fashionista of the group, which also includes singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray). The story is expected to take place in New York City, following the aspiring stars as they try to find their place in the world. Keen works as a personal shopper when she isn’t with her friends, who are hoping to become rockstars or Broadway stars.

Lucy Hale followed up her “Pretty Little Liars” role with a show on the CW called “Life Sentence” in 2018. That series only lasted one season, but Hale quickly followed it up with several film projects. The same year that “Life Sentence” hit the small screen, “Truth or Dare” hit the big screen. Hale starred in the horror-thriller with Tyler Posey and Violett Beane, and the film made over $95M worldwide on a shoestring budget. Hale also starred in “The Unicorn” from director Robert Schwartzman, which also starred Lauren Lapkus and Nicholas Rutherford. Fans of Hale can see her in the rom-com “A Nice Girl Like You” from directors Chris and Nick Riedell, starring alongside Jackie Cruz and Mindy Cohn.

As we reported earlier, one of Hale’s biggest projects is the Sony/Blumhouse film “Fantasy Island.” Hale stars in the film alongside Michael Pena and Maggie Q and is expected to release in theaters on February 2020.
