The big debut of “Captain Marvel” hit theaters this weekend, topping the box office charts. Marvel’s newest addition to the roster had the second-highest solo debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, falling behind “Black Panther” but topping “Iron Man’s” $98M debut.

“Captain Marvel” made an estimated $153M across 4,310 locations this weekend. “Captain Marvel” was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck; the film features Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Clark Gregg, Jude Law, and Gemma Chan.

The big Marvel release bumped “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” down to second-place, but the animated-comedy still made $14.6M. Now in its third week in theaters, “How to Train Your Dragon 3” has made over $119.6M domestically. Dean DeBlois directed “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”; the film features the voice talents of Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, F. Murray Abraham, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Kristen Wiig, and Kit Harington.

“Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral ” did well in theaters this weekend, bringing in another $12M across 2,442 locations nationwide. The film has now made $45M in just two weeks. “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” was written and directed by Tyler Perry, who also stars in the film.

“The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part ” jumped to fourth-place on the domestic charts with a $3.8M weekend. The film has made over $97M domestically for the studio. “The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part” was directed by Mike Mitchell, the film features the voice talents of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Tiffany Haddish, Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Charlie Day, Maya Rudolph, Will Ferrell, Channing Tatum, and Jonah Hill.

FOX’s “Alita: Battle Angel” made $3.2M this weekend and landed in fifth-place overall on the domestic charts. The sci-fi actioner has made over $78M for the studio since it was released four weeks ago. “Alita: Battle Angel” was directed by Robert Rodriguez and the film features Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, and Jackie Earle Haley.

Several smaller releases are opening in theaters next weekend, but “Captain Marvel” is expected to dominate the box office again. “Captive State” with John Goodman and Vera Farmiga is opening against the YA drama “Five Feet Apart,” and families can see the new animated comedy “Wonder Park” next weekend as well.
