After months of waiting, Marvel fans will finally be able to see “Captain Marvel” in theaters this weekend. The big Marvel installment is launching nationwide on April 8th, and Brie Larson, Gemma Chan, a few Armed Forces members, and select members of the crew, hit the red-carpet this week to celebrate the film with fans.
The film is already trending to top the $100M mark on opening weekend, which would put “Captain Marvel” above “Iron Man” on the solo-debut charts, but behind “Black Panther’s” record-smashing $202M domestic opening in 2018. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed the film for Marvel Studios, which stars Brie Larson as the powerful Captain Marvel. Joining Larson on screen are Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. Boden and Fleck also wrote the screenplay for the film, which serves as an origin story for the Captain Marvel character.
The story introduces Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. Danvers must learn to control her powers and defend Earth while two alien races fight to destroy one another.
While this film takes place in the 1990s, the next big Marvel installment will pick up where we left off after “Avengers: Infinity War.” Marvel will release “Avengers: Endgame” on April 26th. Joe and Anthony Russo returned to the franchise to direct the installment, which will feature Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Josh Brolin, Brie Larson, Bradley Cooper (Voice), Elizabeth Olsen, Evangeline Lilly, Letitia Wright, Chadwick Boseman, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
