The first teaser-trailer for A24’s “Midsommar” released today. The horror-mystery is scheduled to hit theaters this summer and features Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, William Jackson Harper, and Jack Reynor. Ari Aster (Hereditary) wrote and directed “Midsommar” for the studio, which is scheduled to hit theaters on August 9, 2019. The story picks up when a young woman joins her boyfriend on a summer trip, and things go horribly wrong.

“Hereditary” was a fantastic hit for Ari Aster when it released in the summer of 2018. The horror-thriller starred Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, and Ann Dowd and made over $79M worldwide. The thriller sits with an 89% rating on RottenTomatoes, and an audience score of 64%.

It has been a fantastic winter for Florence Pugh, her film “Fighting with my Family” did very well in theaters after expanding into more locations in February, and she will also be seen in the upcoming release of Grea Gerwig’s “Little Women” with Saoirse Ronan, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, and Bob Odenkirk. “Fighting with my Family” is still in theaters and was written and directed by Stephen Merchant, the film also features Dwayne Johnson, Lena Headey, Nick Frost, and Vince Vaughn.

“Midsommar” will hit theaters during a crowded box office this year, but horror-thrillers have done well in August in the past. “Midsommar” will release against Disney’s “Artemis Fowl” adaptation, along with the Warner Bros. Pictures’ adaptation of “The Kitchen” with Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, and Tiffany Haddish. The other releases that weekend are Greg Kinnear’s “Brian Banks,” “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” and “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” with Cate Blanchett, Kristen Wiig, and Judy Greer. August is still a long way off at this point, and those films may move around.

Horror-thriller fans can watch the trailer below.

One of the next big releases from the studio is “High Life,” a sci-fi thriller starring Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Andre Benjamin, and Mia Goth. That project comes from director Claire Denis, who co-wrote the script with Jean-Pol Fargeau

A24‘s “Midsommar” will release in theaters on August 9th.
