Guillermo del Toro confirmed this week that he will write and direct the action movie “Zanbato” for Paramount Pictures. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company is producing the project, which is being distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Del Toro made the confirmation this week on Twitter. The director told his followers, “This has been in (development) for the last 6 years or so! Thanks to JJ maximum security system, it had not leaked.” Del Toro added, “We are still developing steadily.”

Details on the movie are slim at this point, but more information should be released over the next few months.

The next project that del Toro has lined up is “Pinocchio” for Netflix. That film will be a stop-motion musical, most likely much darker than the Disney adaptation. Netflix confirmed the Pinocchio project back in October 2018, stating that del Toro will write and produce the film for the video-streaming service.

At the time of the announcement del Toro explained his connection to the story adding “Guillermo del Toro added, “No art form has influenced my life and my work more than animation and no single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio.”

The last time we checked in with del Toro was when he shared a picture from the “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” set. André Øvredal is directing “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” for CBS Films, and the movie features Zoe Margaret Colletti, Michael Garza, Austin Zajur, Gabriel Rush, Dean Norris, and Natalie Ganzhorn. The film is based on the best-selling books of the same name.

Guillermo del Toro won the Academy Award for Directing in 2018 for his work on the film “The Shape of Water.” Del Toro co-wrote the screenplay with Vanessa Taylor. The film also won an Academy Award for Original Score, Best Picture, and Production Design. The film lost the Original Screenplay award to Jordan Peele’s blockbuster “Get Out.”
