The new comedy BESTIES adds a few more names to the cast list

Freeform Network + Slantedfreeform

A new series called “Besties” is coming to Freeform, and the cast got a little bigger this week. The network announced today that the series will feature Gigi Zumbado, Jessika Van (“Seoul Searching”) and Davi Santos (“Tell Me a Story,” “47 Meters Down: Uncaged”), along with the previously announced cast of Jordin Sparks, Matt Shively, and Brooks Brantly.

According to Freeform, Zumbado will play Jesi, a Cuban American raised by two gay dads who discovers that she has a half-sister. Van will play Luna; Becca’s (Jordin Sparks) roommate and a med student who is top of her class but doesn’t want to be a doctor. Santos will play Simon; the assistant to an agent who is constantly at odds with Jesi.

The series will follow Becca (Jordin Sparks) and her newly discovered half-sister Jesi (Gigi Zumbado) as they’re thrown into each other’s lives by an online genetics test, and the two have to figure out how to go from strangers to sisters.

Ranada Shepard, Casey Johnson, and David Windsor serve as creators and executive producers. Kenya Barris also serves as executive producer. “Besties” is produced by ABC.

The show joins Freeform‘s already popular list of YA comedies and dramas. Fans have already pushed hits like “Alone Together” and “grown-ish,” to the top of the charts, and dramas like “Good Trouble,” “The Bold Type,” “Siren,” and “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger” are already growing in viewers. While the Freeform schedule is already filled with hits, there are a lot of new shows coming to Freeform over the next year. Fans of the network can look forward to “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” the “Party of Five” reboot, and “Party Girls” to launch on the network alongside this new comedy in 2019.

Even with most of the cast already in place, viewers will have to wait a few more weeks before Freeform releases a trailer for “Besties,” but we might get a few more casting updates before then.
