There’s a new “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” trailer to enjoy, teasing the big summer blockbuster before it hits theaters in May. The film is the latest installment in the growing monster franchise, following “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island,” both of which did very well in theaters around the world.
The new Godzilla film follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.
Warner Bros. Pictures teased the film adding “When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
The last “Godzilla” film had a $93M opening weekend back in 2014; the film went on to make over $200M domestically and over $529M worldwide. “Kong: Skull Island” did even better, starting with a $61M opening weekend before going on to make over $566M worldwide.
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” was directed by Michael Dougherty, the film features Bradley Whitford, Millie Bobby Brown, and Vera Farmiga. Fans of the King of Lizards can watch the new trailer below.
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” is screaming into theaters on May 31st, a busy month at the box office this year. The film is opening with “Rocketman” starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, and Richard Madden to lead off the month, with “Dark Phoenix” and “The Life of Pets 2” opening the following weekend. “Men in Black International” with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will open against the new “Shaft” installment the following week, with “Toy Story 4” and the “Child’s Play” reboot opening in theaters nationwide the following weekend.
The next installment to the franchise will be “Godzilla vs. Kong,” scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2020.
