Warner Bros. Pictures released a new “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” trailer this afternoon. The movie will hit theaters in March and fans of the original works can get a look at Sophia Lillis taking on the iconic role of Nancy Drew as she assembles her squad of mystery solvers.
The official launch date for the new movie is March 15th which is only a few weeks away at this point. The story picks up after the death of Nancy Drew’s mother, after Nancy moves with her father to River Heights for a fresh start. Nancy Drew is having a hard time adjusting to small-town life, and she longs for adventure, and the chance to make a difference. That is when Nancy gets an opportunity to investigate the ghostly activity at the Twin Elms mansion.
The film is based on the popular Nancy Drew books, which have been going strong since the 1930s. The series has sold over 80M books over the years, and they have been translated in over 45 languages.
As we mentioned earlier, “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” is scheduled to hit theaters on March 15, but there are a lot of big releases that month. Disney is releasing “Captain Marvel,” and there is the YA drama “Five Feet Apart.” Also releasing that month are the animated comedy “Wonder Park” and Disney’s “Dumbo” live-action adaptation.
This isn’t the first adaptation for the franchise. Andrew Fleming directed Emma Roberts in 2007 for the film “Nancy Drew.” That film did well moderately well in theaters but opened against “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” which took the weekend with a $58M opening. “Nancy Drew” had a $6.8M opening and went on to make over $30.6M worldwide. Starring alongside Roberts in that film were Max Thieriot, Rachael Leigh Cook, and Barry Bostwick.
