Warner Bros. Pictures has carved out a release date for the new “Dune” reboot, setting aside November 20th for the new sci-fi adaptation. Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) is set to direct the new installment for the studio, and the film already has an amazing cast.
The new “Dune” reboot is based on the iconic sci-fi novel, with Eric Roth, Jon Spaihts, and Villeneuve writing the screenplay for the film. The story follows Paul Atreides, whose family controls the desert planet of Arrakis. The planet is home to very valuable resources and the planet is coveted among other controlling families for its wealth. Soon after the Atreides family is betrayed, Paul leads a rebellion to reclaim his birthright.
As we mentioned earlier, the cast is already very impressive. While Warner Bros. Pictures has yet to confirm the castings at this time, it has been reported by multiple outlets that Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Stellan Skarsgard are onboard for the adaptation. Warner Bros. Pictures will announce the official cast list and supporting cast members when the project goes into production later this year.
Universal Pictures released a “Dune” movie in 1984. David Lynch wrote and directed that adaptation, which starred Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Francesca Annis, and Sting. The film opened one week after “Beverly Hills Cop,” which beat “Dune” on its opening weekend. The original “Dune” opened in December during a crowded box office, opening against “The Cotton Club,” “Starman,” and “Runaway,” which split the box office amongst adults and sci-fi fans.
November 2020 will be another busy month at the box office, and hopefully for “Dune” history won’t repeat itself. Marvel has already staked out the beginning of the month for an untitled movie and Universal Pictures also has an untitled movie scheduled for the following week. Currently, the big movies scheduled for the month are “Red Notice” with Dwayne Johnson; a new “Rugrats” animated-comedy; and an untitled Disney Animated film.
Since you have so much time before the adaptation hits theaters, you can start the franchise with the original works by Frank Herbert. You can find the original novel right here on Amazon.
