Just a few hours after Disney+ teased “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” with a cast photo, Disney Channel released a first-look trailer for “Descendants 3.”
The third installment was confirmed back when “ZOMBIES” aired on the network, and since it’s the one-year anniversary of that original movie, the Decendants returned to mark the occasion. The new installment will have “Mal” (daughter of Maleficent) coming face-to-face with her father and everyone’s favorite stars are coming back for the new original movie.
“Descendants 3” was directed by Emmy and DGA Award-winning director Kenny Ortega (“Descendants,” “High School Musical” trilogy), who is also serving as executive producer and choreographer.
The popular cast is also returning, with Dove Cameron as Mal, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Sofia Carson as Evie, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Mitchell Hope as King Ben and China Anne McClain as Uma. Sarah Jeffery is also returning as Audrey for the project.
Fans of the ongoing franchise made “Descendants 2” a massive hit for Disney. The show reached more than 71.5M total viewers across 159 countries and 32 languages. The soundtrack for the second installment was the #1 album on iTunes and in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Disney announced earlier this week that “ZOMBIES 2” was in the works. The big sequel is starting production in the spring with Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim reprising their roles as Addison and Zed. The original installment followed a zombie football player and a human cheerleader as they worked together to unite the zombie and human communities of Seabrook.
According to Disney, the big sequel will pick up at Seabrook High where Zed and Addison continue to steer both their school and community toward unity, but the arrival of a new group of outsiders – mysterious werewolves – threatens to shake up the newfound peace and causes a rift in Zed and Addison’s budding romance.
“ZOMBIES 2” was written by David Light and Joseph Raso. The duo also served as co-producers on “ZOMBIES” and will be executive producers on “ZOMBIES 2.” Paul Hoen, who directed “ZOMBIES,” will return to helm “ZOMBIES 2.”
