‘Holmes & Watson’ Goes Digital in March
On the case, on digital
Sony Pictures’ “Holmes & Watson” struggled during a busy box office this past Fall, but you will get a second chance to see the comedy when it launches on Digital HD on March 26th. The film will then release on Blu-ray and DVD on April 9th. The buddy-comedy stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, and features Rebecca Hall, Lauren Lapkus, Ralph Fiennes, and Billy Zane.
“Holmes & Watson” opened against “VICE” in December, but Sony Pictures decided to release the film one week after “Aquaman,” “Mary Poppins Returns,” and “Bumblebee” hit theaters nationwide. That weekend was also during a time when “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” was still doing well in theaters, and “Holmes & Watson” didn’t make a dent at the box office. The competition buried “Holmes & Watson” during its debute, and the film only made $7.4M on its opening weekend before making $39M worldwide. To put that in perspective, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” made $162M worldwide in 2006, and “Step Brothers” made $128M worldwide in 2008. Those two films were directed by Adam McKay, who directed “VICE,” the film that “Holmes & Watson” opened against this year.
The film was written and directed by Etan Cohen, and executive produced by Chris Henchy, Jessica Elbaum, M. Riley, David Mimran and Jordan Schur.
In the film, the comedy duo takes on the roles of the world’s greatest detective and his loyal sidekick & biographer. Together they join forces to solve a murder at Buckingham Palace. They soon realize that they only have 5,760 minutes to solve the case, or the Queen will be next.
