There’s a new “Shazam!” trailer out, and this one focuses on all aspects of the superhero. The studio has been working hard over the past few months to promote the film, which is flying into theaters this April against much competition.
Luckily for “Shazam!” the DCEU is stronger than ever, thanks to “Aquaman” and his mighty $1B worldwide gross over the holiday season. The new trailer is a “Meet Shazam!” moment from the studio, and fans can watch the new video below.
David F. Sandberg directed “Shazam!,” the film will serve as an origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero. Starring alongside Levi is Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson. The movie also features Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard.
Warner Bros. Pictures has been teasing the film saying “We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.”
In the story of Shazam!, Billy Batson’s shouts the word, and the 14-year-old is turned into the adult superhero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard’s spell. The studio went on to explain “Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!”
The film will be a little more lighthearted than the previous DC installments and should appeal to a younger fanbase. “Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”), Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”), Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”), Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”).
Henry Gayden wrote the screenplay, and Gayden and Darren Lemke wrote the story while Bill Parker and C.C. Beck created Shazam. Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer.
“Shazam!” is set for release on April 5, 2019, which has the film opening against the “Pet Semetary” reboot. The big release the following week is “Hellboy,” with “The Curse of La Llorona” opening the following weekend. Then the parties over for most films, as “Avengers: Endgame” will hit theaters at the end of the month, dominating the box office.
