‘Anna and the Apocalypse’ Goes Digital in February
A genre all its own
There aren’t too many zombie-filled holiday musicals on the market, and fewer that are also Certified Fresh on RottenTomatoes, but “Anna and the Apocalypse” can claim both titles. Orion Pictures announced this week that the comedy thriller is releasing on Digital HD and On Demand on February 12th, giving fans of the unique genre something new to stream in a few weeks. “Anna and the Apocalypse” stars Ella Hunt (Robot Overlords, Cold Feet), Malcolm Cumming, Sarah Swire, Christopher Leveaux, Ben Wiggins, and Marli Siu.
The film had a very small showing in theaters, opening across five locations back in November 2018. The film did manage to make over $545K during its theatrical run, and now everyone can catch the musical-comedy-zombie-thriller right on their favorite device. The film did well with critics and fans of the genre. As we mentioned earlier, the film is Certified Fresh, currently sitting with a 77% ratings with Critics and 74% with viewers on Rottentomatoes. Considering the genre, those are very high marks in both categories.
The story picks up when a zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven at Christmas. Anna (Hunt) and her friends are forced to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones. It’s not long before they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world and, with civilization falling apart around them, the only people they can truly rely on are each other.
John McPhail (Where Do We Go From Here) directed the film, working from a screenplay by Alan McDonald and the late Ryan McHenry (BAFTA award-winning “Zombie Musical”).
