Square Enix is celebrating the launch of “Kingdom Hearts III” this week. The publisher announced that the latest installment to the popular franchise has shipped more than 5M units globally, both physically and digitally, across all platforms since its January 29th release. The sales make “Kingdom Hearts III” the fastest selling game in the history of the series.
The game is already available for the PS4 and the Xbox One. The game is available at online retailers, and right here on Amazon.
If you still haven’t picked up the game yet, “Kingdom Hearts III” tells a heartwarming story about the power of friendship and light vs. darkness, as players follow a young Keyblade wielder named Sora, who is joined by Donald Duck, Goofy, and his friends to protect the universe from an evil force known as the Heartless. Set in a vast array of worlds including but not limited to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen, Tangled, Big Hero 6 and Hercules; Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story and Monsters, Inc.; and Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean, Sora and his friends unite with iconic Disney and Pixar characters to overcome tremendous challenges and persevere against the darkness invading their worlds.
The franchise has released games across a wide-array of platforms over the years. The series began with the unlikely partnership between Disney and Square Enix, when the two companies first released the original “Kingdom Hearts” game back in March 2002 for the PlayStation 2. The series celebrated its 15th anniversary in March 2017, and has shipped over 25M units worldwide since its original debut.
“Kingdom Heats III” was met with good reviews from both critics and fans, and players have been hard at work exploring the lands of Toy Story and Frozen, finding new friends and reconnecting with previous characters from the earlier releases.
