FOX has a new trailer for “Alita: Battle Angel,” the highly-anticipated sci-fi epic from James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez. The CG action drama stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley, and Keean Johnson, and is scheduled to hit theaters on Valentine’s Day.
Robert Rodriguez directed the film, working from a screenplay written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. The film is based on the graphic novel written by Yukito Kishiro, which you can grab on the cheap right here on Amazon.
The story picks up when Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world that she does not recognize. Alita is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. Things pick up when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita, and she discovers a clue to her past and that she has unique fighting abilities. The studio teases the film adding “If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.”
“Alita: Battle Angel” is launching one week after the horror-thriller “Happy Death 2U” and the rom-com “Isn’t It Romantic.” The following weekend won’t be any easier for Alita, as DreamWorks is releasing the animated-comedy “How to Train Your Dragon 3” in theaters nationwide.
