CBS Films released a first-look trailer for “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” a new thriller scheduled to hit theaters later this summer. The popular children’s book series inspired the film, which follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and unexplained deaths in their small town. While the stories may be old, the box set is still a great seller on Amazon after all these years.
The new adaptation features Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.
“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” is scheduled to hit theaters in August, which has proven to be a successful month for horror-thrillers. The film was directed by André Øvredal and written by Daniel Hageman & Kevin Hageman, along with Guillermo del Toro who also produced with Sean Daniel, Jason F. Brown, J. Miles Dale & Elizabeth Grave.
The official debut of the film will be on August 9, 2019, which is already a busy week at the box office. The month is starting out with the release of the “Dora the Explorer” adaptation, FOX’s “New Mutants,” and the “Fast and Furious” spinoff with Hobbs and Shaw. Disney is releasing its big “Artemis Fowl” adaptation the weekend after, and “The Angry Birds Movie 2;” “Boss Level” with Frank Grillo, Naomi Watts, and Mel Gibson; and “Good Boys” with Jacob Tremblay is releasing the weekend after that.
With a good mix of family-friendly adventures and thrillers, it will be interesting to see which of the new releases comes out on top. While the August box office was one of the slower months of the year, hits like “Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” have shows that the right movie can bring fans into theaters. Horror-thrillers have been summer favorites for quite a few years now, with the YA thrillers usually choosing between June and July to hit the box office.
