‘Mortal Engines’ Goes Digital in February
Mortal Engines steams its way onto Digital
Universal Pictures “Mortal Engines” now has a digital release date. The film, from Peter Jackson, will first be available on Digital HD and the Movies Anywhere App on February 19th, followed by the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on March 12th.
The big-budget epic struggled in theaters when it released back in December. The film made $7.5M on opening weekend, hitting theaters at the same time that “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” and Clint Eastwood’s “The Mule” opened nationwide. That was the same weekend that FOX’s “Once Upon a Deadpool” also hit theaters. The film divided critics and fans, scoring a 26% on RottenTomatoes with critics, but 59% with audiences. The film made over $15.9M domestically before going on to make over $81M worldwide.
Mortal Engines stars v (Anna Karenina), Robert Sheehan (Geostorm, Three Summers), Jihae (“Mars”), Hugo Weaving (Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta), and Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don’t Breathe).
The story picks up hundreds of years after our civilization was destroyed, and a new world has emerged. The film follows a mysterious young woman named Hester Shaw who leads a band of outcasts in the fight to stop London – now a giant predator city on wheels – from devouring everything in its path. The film is based on the award-winning book series by Philip Reeve and was directed by Oscar-winning visual-effects artist Christian Rivers (King Kong). Joining Rivers are “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogies three-time Academy Award-winning filmmakers Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who penned the screenplay.
