Taron Egerton’s ‘Robin Hood’ Goes Digital in February
Robin Hood shoots to digital this winter
Lionsgate’s “Robin Hood” now has a Digital release date. The studio will release the film on Digital HD on February 5th, followed by the 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD versions of the film on February 19th.
Directed by BAFTA Award Winner Otto Bathurst (2014, Television Craft – Director – Fiction, “Peaky Blinders”), the film struggled in theaters during a busy box office. A rare miss for Taron Egerton, the film only made $9M on opening weekend but went on to make $83M worldwide. Lionsgate released the film against “Ralph Breaks the Internet” from Disney, and “Creed II” from MGM. That weekend was also the follow-up weekend for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” and the comedy “Instant Family.” Still, the new Digital release will give Taron Egerton fans something to stream this winter, while they are waiting for “Rocketman” to release in May. Egerton is also voicing a role in “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” TV series, and “Moominvalley.”
Starring alongside Taron Egerton (Kingsman franchise, Sing, Upcoming: Rocketman) in “Robin Hood” are Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained, Law Abiding Citizen, Ray), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Dark Knight Rises, Ready Player One), Eve Hewson (Bridge of Spies, Blood Ties, Enough Said), and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades franchise, The Fall, Anthropoid).
The story follows Robin of Loxley (Egerton) after he returns home to find his country oppressed by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Mendelsohn). With the help of his friends, Robin transforms into the heroic outlaw Robin Hood, taking up arms to fight the sheriff and win the heart of his love, Maid Marian (Hewson).
Since the film didn’t exactly wow the studio in theaters, that means it should be new to a lot of streamers.
