‘Second Act’ Goes Digital in March
Always time for a second act
The romantic-comedy “Second Act” now has an official Digital release date. STX will release the film on Digital HD on March 12th, followed by the Blu-ray and DVD release on March 26th. With an abundance of superhero films and thrillers, fans of rom-coms can pick up the title just before spring this year.
The romantic comedy did well in theaters, but the rom-com started slowly. The film debuted last December, opening at the same time as “Aquaman,” “Mary Poppins Returns,” and “Bumblebee.” The December rush of heavy-hitters overcrowded the box office, and there were still leftover holiday hits like “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” and Sony’s animated hit “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” that were still doing well in theaters across the country. “Second Act” struggled in the first week, only bringing in $6M over the film’s opening weekend, but went on to make over $52M worldwide.
In the film, Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan, “Shades of Blue”) returns to the big screen and proves it’s never too late to pursue your dreams. Peter Segal directed the film, which also stars Leah Remini (“The King of Queens,” “Kevin Can Wait”), Vanessa Hudgens (The Princess Switch, High School Musical franchise) and Milo Ventimiglia (“This is Us,” “Gilmore Girls”).
The story follows Maya (Lopez) a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations of not having achieved more in life. As an experienced, quick-witted, perceptive employee, she is passed over for promotions solely because she doesn’t have a college degree. Until that is, she gets the chance to prove that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts and that it is never too late for a Second Act.
