A lot of favourites on this list

The official nominations for the 91st Academy Awards were announced this morning. The Academy listed the nominations for the 24 Oscar categories during a two-part live presentation via a global live stream.

While the Academy Awards were a little short on surprises this year, there are plenty of fan-favorite films on the list. Marvel fans should be happy to see “Black Panther” making the list for “Best Picture,” a first for the superhero genre. As expected, “A Star is Born” was nominated several times, with nods going out to both Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Other installments mirror the Golden Globe nominations, with “The Favourite” and “Roma” taking the most nominations with ten each. The other films to earn multiple nominations this year include “Vice,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Green Book.”

The two Supporting Actors for “The Favourite,” Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz, are competing against each other for the award this year. The film’s star, Olivia Colman, also earned a nomination this year in the Best Actress category. Rami Malek earned a Best Actor nomination for his work in Bohemian Rhapsody, and he will have to battle Bradley Cooper.

Oscar-winning producer Donna Gigliotti will produce the 91st Oscars, and Emmy-winning director Glenn Weiss will co-produce and direct the show.

The Oscars will air live on the ABC Television Network and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, February 24, 2019.

The big event is taking place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California.

You have a couple of weeks to fill in your Oscar pools at the office; we would suggest going heavy on “The Favourite” though “A Star is Born” could go either way. In the past, the Academy hasn’t awarded remakes the same as original productions, but the Academy does seem to like Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. It’s anyone’s game this year, but we are hoping for a “Black Panther” win in our hearts.
