‘Shazam!’ Sneak Peek Offers a Quick Preview of his Powers
Just say the word, and Shazam!
With “Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse” and “Aquaman” winding down in theaters, Warner Bros. Pictures is reminding superhero fans that “Shazam!” is only a few weeks away. The upcoming movie released a sneak peek at the action in the video below, teasing a few of the superpowers that Shazam has in store for his enemies.
David F. Sandberg directed “Shazam!,” the film will serve as an origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV’s “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV’s “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson. The movie also stars Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.
Peter Safran (“Aquaman,” “The Conjuring” and “Annabelle” films) serves as the film’s producer.
The studio teased the film on YouTube adding “We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.”
In the story of Shazam!, Billy Batson’s shouts the word, and the 14-year-old is turned into the adult superhero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard’s spell. The studio went on to explain “Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!”
The film will be a little more lighthearted than the previous DC installments and should appeal to a younger fanbase.
“Shazam!” also stars Jack Dylan Grazer (“IT”), Grace Fulton (“Annabelle: Creation”); Faithe Herman (TV’s “This is Us”), Ian Chen (TV’s “Fresh Off the Boat”), Jovan Armand (TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”).
Cooper Andrews (TV’s “The Walking Dead”) and Marta Milans (TV’s “Killer Women”) play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou (“Blood Diamond”) as the Wizard.
Henry Gayden wrote the screenplay, and Gayden and Darren Lemke wrote the story. Bill Parker and C.C. Beck created Shazam.
“Shazam!” is set for release on April 5, 2019.
