The action-thriller “John Wick 3” released its first official trailer this morning. Lionsgate teased the trailer earlier this week on social media, getting fans excited for the new installment that is expected to hit theaters on May 17th. Fans of the franchise can watch the official trailer below; the trilogy release is going by the title “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”
The third chapter in the popular franchise will star Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon, Lance Reddick, Saïd Taghmaoui, Jerome Flynn, Jason Mantzoukas, Tobias Segal, and Boban Marjanovic. The film will also feature Anjelica Huston and Ian McShane.
Directed by Chad Stahelski, the screenplay was written by Derek Kolstad and Shay Hatten, along with Chris Collins and Marc Abrams.
The third movie follows super-assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) after he returns from the events of the sequel with a $14M price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.
David Leitch and Chad Stahelski directed the original, which was a runaway hit for the studio back in 2014. “John Wick” opened in second-place that year, behind the horror-thriller “Ouija,” but still made over $14.4M at the box office before going on to make over $88M worldwide. The sequel did even better, opening in third-place behind “The LEGO Batman Movie” and “Fifty Shades Darker” with a $30M debut weekend. “John Wick: Chapter Two” made over $171M worldwide.
While the “John Wick” franchise has been another hit for Keanu Reeves, his recent “Replicas” movie with Alice Eve did not do well in theaters. The film had a limited release last weekend, only making $2.3M across 2,329 locations.
