You don’t need to solve any riddles to find Carmen Sandiego’s new animated movie; the reboot is heading straight to Netflix. The video streaming service released a first-look trailer for the special earlier today, and fans can watch the video below. Netflix teased the new project on YouTube stating “Everybody asks “WHERE is Carmen Sandiego?”, but nobody asks “WHO is Carmen Sandiego?” The iconic woman in red returns for new international capers and a peek into her past.”

The series features Gina Rodriguez as Carmen and Finn Wolfhard as Player. The movie is a standalone Carmen adventure that will embrace the favorite 90’s property for both existing fans and a new generation. Not only is Gina Rodriguez starring in the series, but she is also producing through her I Can and I Will production company with Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser.

Netflix first announced the series in March 2018, back when the platform first acquired the live-action feature film rights to the franchise. There will also be a new line of books from HMH, the publisher that owns the rights to franchise, that will feature Carmen and her adventures. The books are scheduled to launch in 2019 to coincide with the debut of the new series. The book launch and the new movie is sure to introduce the famous Carmen Sandiego to millions of children around the world, and should help bring back the popular icon.

Rodriguez also has the starring role in “Miss Bala” for Sony Pictures, that project will be released on January 25, 2019. Rodriguez will also star in the romantic-comedy “Someone Great,” written and directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. That film will also star Brittany Snow and Rosario Dawson. The project is currently in post-production and is scheduled to release in 2019, but the studio has not announced a firm premiere date at this time.

You won’t even have to wait too long for the premiere; Carmen Sandiego premiers on Netflix on January 18th.
