After a quick teaser trailer was released earlier this week, Netflix has set a premiere date for “The Punisher: Season 2.” The latest video confirms that the new season will be available on Netflix on January 18th and fans of the character can watch the official announcement trailer below. The video streaming service teased the new season adding “He isn’t the one who dies. He’s the one that does the killing.”
As we mentioned earlier this week when Netflix first started teasing the new episodes, “The Punisher” is one of the last Marvel properties still on Netflix. The platform has already cancelled “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist,” and it’s unclear if “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” will continue on Netflix after their next seasons. “The Punisher” is going into Season 2, while “Jessica Jones” will be premiering Season 3 later this year.
Netflix gave “The Punisher” its own spinoff series after fans rallied behind Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the character in “Daredevil.” It would be great if Netflix kept making new episodes of “The Punisher” and “Jessica Jones,” but with Disney’s new streaming service set to debut in 2019, that seems unlikely at this point.
Even if Netflix does decide to severe all ties with Marvel and Disney and cancels “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher,” there will be new Marvel series to watch on Disney+. That streaming service is also bringing us the Star Wars live-action series “The Mandalorian,” and is expected to launch in 2019. Disney hasn’t announced an exact premiere date at this time, and we still don’t know the pricing for that service.
No matter what happens, “The Punisher” fans still get at least one more season to watch. Now we just need a release date for “Jessica Jones.”
