‘Once Upon a Deadpool’ Goes Digital in January
Spend some time with Fred Savage
After a short stop at the holiday box office this year, the PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 is releasing on Digital and Blu-ray later this month. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will be donating $1 from every Blu-ray purchase, Digital buy, or Digital rental in the United States from January 1st to January 28th to the Fudge Cancer charity. There’s even a minimum donation of $100K just in case no one buys or rents the film, which seems unlikely. We should also point out that Fox donated $1 for each ticket purchased during the film’s theatrical release this holiday season. “Once Upon a Deadpool” will be available on Digital HD and the Movies Anywhere app on January 15th. The film is also releasing on Blu-ray the same day, so no one has to wait.
The R-rated version was another box office hit for the studio, opening with a $125M debut earlier this year. The film went on to make over $324M domestically and over $741M worldwide. “Once Upon a Deadpool” made $2.6M on opening weekend and over $325M worldwide. You also get a lot of Fred Savage in the new version, which is always a plus.
The story follows Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) as he teams up with Domino (Zazie Beet), Cable (Josh Brolin) and the rest of the X-Force to once again save everyone around him, and maybe even himself. The new version offers 20 minutes of new footage and surprises, and should keep everyone entertained over the winter.
The next Marvel release on the schedule is “Captain Marvel” with Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. That film was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and is scheduled to debut in March. The next FOX/Marvel project is “Dark Phoenix” but fans will have to wait until June to see that film.
