After a week of teasing, Lionsgate released the first “Hellboy” trailer for fans of the franchise. The new reboot is set to premiere in theaters this April, and fans can get their first look at the new movie below.
The new adaptation of the comic series stars David Harbour in the titular role; Milla Jovovich as Nimue the Blood Queen; Ian McShane as Professor Bruttenholm; Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan; Thomas Haden Church as Lobster Johnson; Penelope Mitchell as Ganeida; Daniel Dae Kim as Ben Daimio; Sophie Okonedo as Lady Hatton; Kristina Klebe as Leni Riefenstahl; Ashley Edner as Agent Taylor; Mario de la Rosa as Camazotz; and Douglas Tait as Gruagach. Neil Marshall directed the reboot for Lionsgate.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters domestically on April 12th, putting it against other big releases that are also set to release that month.
The first “Hellboy” film hit theaters back in 2004, with Ron Perlman starring as Hellboy alongside Selma Blair. That installment was written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and opened at number-one in theaters with a $23M debut. The film went on to make over $59M domestically and over $99M worldwide for the studio. The success of the film prompted Lionsgate to release a sequel in 2008, with Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman, and Selma Blair returning to their roles. “Hellboy II: The Golden Army” made $34M when it opened in theaters nationwide, going on to make over $75M domestically and $160M worldwide.
As we mentioned earlier, “Hellboy” is opening during a busy month. The film is hitting theaters one-week after the “Pet Sematary” reboot, and the DC film “Shazam!,” which could overshadow Hellboy’s release. The weeks following Hellboy’s debut are pretty clear, with only “The Curse of La Llorona” showing any real threat to Hellboy’s follow-up schedule.
“Hellboy” will hit theaters on April 12, 2019.
