Freeform’s hit mermaid drama “Siren” is coming back this winter. The network confirmed that the series will return with all-new episodes on January 24th, while also giving fans a preview of the new story lines. The network released the first Season 2 trailer earlier this evening while announce the premiere date. The official description reads “An oil company forces even more mermaids to the surface of Bristol Cove, threatening to bring conflict to the small town once again.”
The network teased the new story on social-media today by simply stating “More mermaids are coming.”
The series was a consistent hit on Freeform during its first season. If you’re new to the show there’s plenty of time to catch up. The story focuses on Bristol Cove, a coastal town known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. Things pick up when a mysterious girl arrives in the town and proves the folklore to be true. Soon the predatory beings return to reclaim their right to the ocean and Bristol Cove becomes a hunting ground for both sides. The show is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White, they also serve as executive producers. Emily Whitesell (“Finding Carter”) serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series, with Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb as executive producers.
“Siren” stars Alex Roe (“The 5th Wave”), Eline Powell (“Game of Thrones”), Fola Evans-Akingbola (“An American Exorcism”), Ian Verdun (“Life’s a Drag”), and Rena Owen (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III).
The show fits in well with Freeform’s sci-fi YA lineup. The other hits on the network are “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger,” and “Shadowhunters”. Unfortunately we learned this year that “Shadowhunters” will be coming to a close. While sci-fi has been doing well, the network also has several new series on the horizon. Over the next year, Freeform viewers will get to see “Besties,” “Good Trouble,” the new “Party of Five” reboot, and the spinoff of “Pretty Little Liars” called “The Perfectionists”
